Madrid is a city full of endless attractions. The endless sights to see and generosity of its people, endless beauty and cuisine, endless skies and fascinating neighbourhoods, each of them with their own special nature that welcomes both residents and visitors.
Aimlessly wandering the streets of Madrid without a fixed destination in mind is guaranteed to be a success. All of its districts have a special charm, and here we would like to just highlight those that are most in fashion in these modern times.
Malasaña
Bohemian, modern, underground and retro come together in Malasaña, one of the most charismatic districts in Madrid.
Alongside the Gran Vía and the Calle Fuencarral, it is one of the busiest parts of Madrid due to its huge variety of different venues.
The name of the district comes from Manuela Malasaña, a local heroine of the May 2 uprising, and is synonymous with the Spanish “Movida” cultural movement of the 1970s and 80s. It remains a bastion of freedom to this day.
Madrid of the Habsburgs
Located between Sol and the Barrio de Las Letras, this may well be the most beautiful district in Madrid from an architectural point of view, and also the most historic. The curved streets, noble houses with small balconies and the Royal Palace as a backdrop make this district truly unique. Restaurants that are more than 100 years old will make you feel as if you had flown back in time to the 19th century.
Chamberí
This is undoubtedly one of the most traditional neighbourhoods in the city.
Its aristocratic architectural heritage, wide and leafy avenues, and a great choice of restaurants make it a wonderful place to live and to explore.
It is also home to the Parque de Santander, which combines lovely gardens and park areas with a choice of sports facilities.
Barrio de las Letras
Lope de Vega, Quevedo, Cervantes, Góngora or Tirso de Molina were some of the illustrious authors of the Spanish Golden Age who lived in one of the most cultural districts in Madrid.
The Paseo del Prado is definitely one of the most splendid of its numerous attractions.
Ponzano
The best street for restaurants in Madrid deserves a special mention.
Located in the Chamberí district, Ponzano is the ideal place for lunch, dinner or just some tapas. It has become a genuine magnet for all foodies.
The culinary delights on offer are also accompanied by many cultural attractions: the Canal Theatres, the Canal de Isabel II Exhibition Centre, the Geomining Museum or the Parque de Santander.
Madrid is a very special city precisely because of the diversity of its people and its different districts. Explore the city as if it were the first time you’d ever seen it, and savour a city which is as multicultural as it is traditional.
From Madrid to heaven!
