Amazing, exciting and full of energy, Madrid is much more than just a city. It is a kind of living museum, where every new work is even more impressive than the last: The Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza Cibeles, the Prado Museum, the Retiro Park and a long list of iconic places that form part of this extraordinary metropolis.
Aristocratic and traditional, bohemian and avant-garde, Madrid has a range of different personalities that make it unique, and the best way to see it all is from a bird’s eye view. Almost touching the famous Madrid sky while admiring its rooftops and huge avenues from above.
Rooftop venues are the latest attraction for enjoying a snack or glass of wine while admiring the sunset. Each rooftop offers unique and spectacular views that are impossible to resist. Here are a few suggestions to help you enjoy an unforgettable city tour while admiring views that will take your breath away.
We start with Rooftop Bar 360º at the Hotel RIU Plaza España, a central and modern venue. From the top floor visitors can enjoy exceptional views with a latte or signature cocktail in hand. The reason why it attracts so many visitors is a glass walkway which is over 100 metres high, where everyone stops to take a picture of the vertigo-inducing views.
Picalagartos is another rooftop which is well worth visiting. On the eighth floor of the NH Hotel on the Gran Vía, visitors can enjoy a refreshing lunch after a morning of shopping and get away from the traffic noise and hustle and bustle. Chef Manuel Berganza leads the kitchen team in a homage to Spanish ingredients in the most traditional dishes.
If you prefer Asian-Spanish fusion, the Ginkgo Restaurant & Sky Bar is the place for you. This multi-purpose space has become popular thanks to shows such as Ginkgo Jet Drunk which combines dancing, cocktails and live music. This rooftop is a great choice as it really has it all. Another fantastic place to enjoy while you touch the sky.
Doñaluz, Portalsol, Casa Suecia or the roof of the Círculo de Bellas Artes are also good options if you want to see some wonderful views. All of them and many more are the perfect places to hear the popular expression that is heard every time someone sees their first sunset in the capital: “from Madrid to heaven”.
