Barcelona is an amazing city with streets that are brimming with life, a multicultural spirit and so many leafy trees that make a visit a wonderful and deliciously colourful urban experience.
The city is home to many green areas and spectacular buildings with a modernist architectural style inspired by nature. Wandering around its streets visitors discover façades full of impossible shapes created from stone, ceramics, wrought iron or tiny fragments of tiles, the famous local “trencadis”.
Catalan modernism, an artistic and cultural movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, found its greatest exponent in Antoni Gaudí.
The Catalan architect had an entirely innovative vision and a very personal and unique way of creating what would eventually become one of the city’s most outstanding attractions: its architecture.
We would like to highlight three masterpieces that are considered UNESCO World Heritage sites and we believe justify in themselves a trip to Barcelona:
Sagrada Familia Cathedral is the most visited tourist attraction in Spain. This stunning and majestic temple was designed by Gaudí and is still under construction, with its completion scheduled for 2026. Inside the building you will not find a single straight line. It is full of colour, with bright, stained-glass windows, and also bathed in natural light, two of the attributes that Gaudí believed were a manifestation of life.
Another exceptional work by Gaudí is the Casa Batlló, located at number 43 on the Passeig de Gracia. This building is a perfect example of Gaudí’s artistic zenith, of his creative freedom and ingenuity. An apology for happiness, a world built around dreams that transports us to a world of nature and fantasy.
The wonderful Parc Güell is one of the largest parks in Barcelona. Another fascinating work by Gaudí in the upper part of the city which is a great place to visit with the family, your partner or a group of friends at any time of the day. A magnificent park that is also a meeting point for many Barcelona residents and a must-see attraction for every tourist.
Barcelona has earned an aura of charisma thanks to its numerous virtues, but its modernist architecture is undoubtedly one of the shiniest jewels in its crown. There are many more fascinating examples that you can explore. Buildings and spaces which are especially beautiful when the sunlight adds a golden patina to a visit late in the day. La Pedrera, the Palau de la Música, the Casa Vicens or the Casa Amatller are just some of the exceptional modernist buildings that await you in Barcelona.
We are totally convinced that one of the best ways to get to know Barcelona is through its buildings, its history and its nature converted to stone.
