Mexico City is a fascinating destination for family travel and guarantees an unforgettable holiday. The Mexican capital offers both beautiful landscapes and unlimited entertainment and leisure opportunities that ensure fun for family members of all ages.
The vibrant colours, sounds and sights in the city fascinate both children and adults alike. That’s why we’re going to recommend you a few places that you must not miss if you want to soak up the local culture and enjoy a very special family holiday to the full.
We’ll start with Chapultepec, which has several places worth seeing. The iconic castle is the only one to house royalty in all of the Americas. In addition to incredible gardens and architecture, it is also home to the National History Museum. We continue with him Papalote Children’s Museum. This museum is located in Chapultepec Forest and is perfect to visit with the family thanks to a range of different interactive spaces designed to encourage learning. The forest is also the location of shows that will take your breath away, such as the “Danza de los Voladores” that takes place at the National Anthropology Museum and consists of several men climbing a 30-metre pole and throwing themselves backwards towards the ground only held by ropes. We will end at the Chapultepec Fair, a mandatory stop as it has more than 30 attractions, including a roller coaster.
Visitors with a sweet tooth should not miss the Celaya sweetshop, a shop that dates back to the 19th century and specialises in typical Mexican sweets such as gaznates, cocadas or besos de nuez, all of which are delicacies that we recommend you try.
Coyoacan is a popular tourist area full of charming streets with many different things to see and do. Including the Hidalgo Garden, the Temple of Antonia Panzacola, the House of Leon Trotsky or Frida Kahlo’s Blue House. There are also improvised street performances and several parks, meaning that in Coyoacán you can see plays, go to workshops or ride the tram while you listen to fascinating legends or enjoy delicious ice creams or typical sweets.
Last but not least, we recommend you step aboard a typical trajinera to see the canals of Lake Xochimilco. Once the ride is over, you can also visit the markets in the area. Lovers of the sea will enjoy a visit to the Inbursa Aquarium, home to over 5,000 marine creatures. Visitors looking for adventure might prefer the numerous parks and forests with zip lines, cable cars and outdoor activities.
What are you waiting for? Let’s have fun!
